ABC Level 2 Diploma in Work based Horticulture 27/04/2017. At Roots to Fruits, Oakdene Nursery, Birmingham. On my course I covered: Preparing ground for seeding and planting, both indoors and outdoors. Establishing plants and seeds in soil. Plant identification. I created a small cottage garden and a symmetrical modern garden. Removed unwanted plant material such as dead leaves, branches, diseased, infected material, reverted or unwanted growth. I created a hurdle fence using materials on site, put up fence panels, a block paved pathway and lay patio slabs. I maintained plants by pruning them, shaping them, coppicing and dividing them. I took softwood, semiripe and wardwood cuttings grafted cornus, willow and onto apple saplings and root stock. At Brookside Nursery, I currently select plants for mail order, undertake plant maintenance and am responsible for the hanging baskets and containers both for shows and clients. As Self employed Gardener, I maintain private gardens for my clients. Cutting, edging and maintaining lawns and hedges. Weeding, clearing and general tidying up of borders including pruning and dividing plants as appropriate. Dead heading and the removal of dead or unwanted material. Keeping box trimmed to shape. I maintain pathways and patios removing weeds and moss. I have cleaned up a water feature and renewed it. Cleared acca drains from debris. I weeded and dug the soil around existing plants in one garden before adding compost to restore and improve the ground. I've dug out large tree roots and weeds in someone's borders and then planted new plants improving their garden. I also have dug up roses and a few other plants and potted them on for someone who was moving house. I make rose cuttings and grown them on successfully for sale. I have made other hardwood cuttings. I have a small area which I grow on plants for my customers. I have also pruned a friends apple trees, and maintain my own garden.
